Amazon Music Raises Subscription Costs

As of September 19th, the individual plan for Prime members will see a rise from $8.99 to $9.99 per month. Even the family plan under Amazon Music Unlimited, catering to Prime members, is not immune to the price surge. It will see a shift from its previous $15.99 monthly charge to the new rate of $16.99.

Subscribers, whether on the individual or family plan, also have the option to pay on an annual basis. However, this convenience will now come at a slightly steeper price point. The annual fees for individual and family plans will be set at $99 and $169, respectively, marking a $10 increase compared to the prior rates.

In defense of this adjustment, Amazon has stated that the subscription fee increase was implemented to, and we quote, “provide you with even more content and features.” This justification comes amidst the backdrop of a competitive streaming landscape where service providers continue to expand and diversify their offerings to capture audience engagement.

Amazon Music, with its spectrum of streaming options, caters to various listening preferences. These include the ad-supported free tier, the paid Unlimited option available for non-Prime members, and the more economical Unlimited version for Prime members. Notably, the free tier comes with certain limitations, like random song playback and a reduced track count compared to the paid counterparts tied to Prime membership.
