Can I Connect My Hercules DJ Console To My iPad?

A few years ago, Hercules introduced a new iPad controller with the long name DJControlWave. The main feature of the novelty is the use of a wireless Bluetooth connection. In addition, DJControlWave has a built-in battery that allows you to use both the iPad and the controller wirelessly. That is, during operation there is not a single cord at all – neither power nor interface cables.

DJControlWave is designed to work primarily with the DJUCED DJW iPad mobile app. However, nothing prevents you from using the controller with a computer in the full desktop version of DJUCED. For this, a traditional wired connection via a mini USB connector is provided.

The connection requires Bluetooth 3.0, so you can connect to almost any iPad. Many people are wondering how much latency the energy-efficient, but not the fastest Bluetooth 3.0 gives? After getting acquainted with the device, we can say with confidence that the delay is very small and does not create problems.

The DJControlWave has a very bright, attractive design. The curved shape gives the appearance a special originality. Since the case is completely plastic, the weight of the device is only 1.5 kg. The front surface of the controller is black gloss. This is not very practical, as the gloss is easily soiled and quickly scratched. However, combined with the backlighting and metallic elements, the design looks great.

In addition to convenient controls, DJControlWave is equipped with LED lighting. All available buttons, when pressed, are highlighted, showing the activity of the enabled mode. The EQ knobs have an illuminated marker in the center. The master volume control is equipped with a circular level indication. There is also a six-position level indication for each deck. When playing a track, a green semi-circle rotates beautifully around the jog wheel.

As in all DJ programs focused on outputting sound from iPad headphones, the preview function is only possible here if the stereo signal is split into two mono channels. The mobile version of the DJUCED DJW program provides such an opportunity. The kit comes with a special adapter, with which you can connect two sources to the tablet at the same time.

DJControlWave’s built-in battery is rated for up to 8 hours. The device uses a 4000 mAh battery. The battery is made removable, so if it wears out from intensive use, it can be replaced.

What is the DJUCED DJW software and what control options does this unusual DJControlWave controller provide?

  1. The DJUCED DJW app is an iPad-optimized, simplified version of the DJUCED App designed specifically for the DJControlWave controller.
  2. DJUCED DJW is free, but only works on a tablet when a controller is connected. Otherwise, the application will not start.
  3. Еhe DJUCED DJ program is aimed at beginners, so the first time you start, there is an interactive tutorial on how to load tracks and how to work.

The application allows you to work with two decks using the music collection on the tablet.

On the other hand, it should be understood that DJControlWave is not a replacement for a full-fledged controller and should not be considered for professional use.
