Hulu is a well-known competitor to Netflix. This video service has attracted attention for the success of its original content. In addition to streaming, with a more expensive subscription, you can enjoy channels like NBC, BBC, ABC, Fox, Viacom, Comcast, MTV, VH1, Discovery and over 60 more live and on-demand channels.
This streaming service uses geo-blocking. Hulu is only officially available in the US and Japan. So you will need a VPN, a US-issued payment method (local credit card), and a lot of patience to connect to this service and use it in another country, unless, of course, you are in the United States or Japan.
Unlike its direct competitor Netflix, which has spread to more than 190 countries, Hulu is being cautious. The company has not yet arrived in the vast majority of countries, and its geographic reach is limited to the United States, with the exception of Puerto Rico and US military bases around the world.
Japan has Hulu, but Hulu’s video content catalog may differ from Hulu’s catalog in the US. The Japanese branch of the service focuses on local video content of Japanese and Asian production, which is closer to local users and more understandable to them.
Hulu claims to not work with proxy services. If you are identified as using an anonymous proxy or services blacklisted by Hulu, you will need to disable them when you see the error message.
- You are accessing Hulu from outside the US.
- You are using an unsupported third party application.
- You are using a program to anonymize web browsing.
- You are using a blacklisted IP address to use an anonymous proxy.
It is important to note that on some devices it may not be possible to download the Hulu app without switching the device store to the US app store.
Combo packages will initially be for US college students and will cost just $4.99 per month – the same as the corresponding Spotify 8+ Student plan
If you already have a Spotify Premium Student plan, you can instantly activate a Hulu subscription (they cost the same for regular customers, after all). Alternatively, if you already have a regular Hulu subscription, you can simply combine it with your student Spotify account. If you attend a US Title IV accredited college or university, you can get Hulu (ad-supported) and Showtime with the Spotify Premium Student plan. You must verify your status through SheerID before signing up for this discounted plan. The subscription will be valid as long as you have the status of a student.
So far, the action applies only to the student audience. This is a very effective solution given that it is students who potentially make up a significant proportion of the users of both services. In addition, as a rule, students always have little money, which is also taken into account.
The joint action of the Swedish streaming platform and Hulu is aimed at attracting users to both services. It is possible that soon the collaboration will expand to other Spotify tariff plans.
