What determines the time you spend talking on the phone, scrolling through the news or listening to streaming music? You know the answer to this question… That’s right, the battery and its capabilities. Of course, you can find additional power sources for your device. But what if you are far from home, for example, in the forest, and there is no way to charge your phone?
Should you give up listening to your favorite streaming music on Spotify and ruin your mood? To do this, you need to understand how much battery your device uses when using Spotify and how to optimize this process.
A lot depends on the type of phone
As for battery consumption when listening to music in streaming mode using the Spotify app, it all depends on the battery of the device on which you are going to use the app. In this case, you can use the native functions of Android and iOS / iPadOS to control the consumption.
Android
To find out how much battery the Spotify app uses, go to Settings > Battery and tap on the desired app to view its consumption details. Next to Battery used by app, you will be able to see the percentage of Spotify’s battery usage.
Also, by tapping the Details button, you can access the app’s information and make some useful changes to reduce battery consumption. For example, on a Xiaomi Redmi smartphone, you can pause the app when not in use, limit its background activity with the power saving feature, and disable full-screen mode, all useful features to save battery.
iPhone/iPad
However, on iPhone and iPad, you can check Spotify’s battery consumption by going to Settings > Battery and checking the graph on the screen that opens, where you can select the Last 24 Hours or Last 10 Days tab to get more complete information.
Then check the percentage of usage associated with the Spotify app in the list and, by tapping the Show activity item, its usage time. This way, you will be able to understand how much battery the app consumed while you were using it.
However, there is little you can do through the iOS settings to save battery life when using Spotify, other than activating the power saving feature, which, however, applies to the entire operating system (for example, by blocking content syncing to the cloud).
PC and Mac
If you are interested in monitoring the usage of the Spotify app installed on your Windows or macOS computer, you can use your PC’s native tools.
On Windows 11, click the battery icon in the taskbar, then click the battery icon again in the panel that opens. This will bring you to the Windows settings in the center of the screen, under the Power & Battery screen. From here, check the Battery Usage graph and just below it, the apps that have used the battery, under the Battery Usage per App heading.
On macOS, you need to use the Activity Monitor utility:
- Click the Launchpad icon
- Go to the Other folder
- Click the Activity Monitor icon
- From here, by clicking on the Energy tab, you can check the apps that have consumed your Mac’s battery in the last 12 hours, as well as how much (shown under the Energy Impact and Consumption headings).
If you decide to switch to the Swedish music streaming service Spotify from any other platform, you will not be able to keep your music collection – playlists, favorite tracks and songs, etc. To transfer your music collection to Spotify, you will need a third-party app. The best choice is MusConv, which works seamlessly with over 125 streaming services.
