HowTo Schedule Spotify to Turn Off When You Fall Asleep

The gesture of charging a mobile phone at night has become a gesture not in itself, but because of its necessity. We are no longer in the days of the old Nokia, whose battery lasted a week even with daily calls. We live in the era of smartphones, multitasking terminals, and they are used for everything from browsing the Internet to playing games, shopping online, work, live streaming, etc. Do you find it difficult to survive until the end of the day with a cell phone battery? Well, that in and of itself is a problem with the apps you have installed, as some of them seem like “lighters” in terms of how little power they use, while others drink it directly.

If you enjoy listening to music or podcasts before bed, you can do so with Spotify without having to play audio all night, on both iPhone and Android.

It is clear that Spotify is one of the most popular music streaming services on the market, but while its catalog is huge and each new update brings improvements and new features, it still has to add a few new features.

What happens if you listen to Spotify and fall asleep? The playlist of songs or podcasts continues until you wake up and can’t remember when you stopped listening.

Devices such as audio players or radios have long offered a feature known as Sleep Timer, which we can translate as sleep mode or sleep timer. Even TVs have a countdown that helps us turn off the electronic device after a few minutes or a few hours and thus prevent you from being woken up in the middle of the night by the TV, radio or your smartphone playing content.

As of now, Spotify does not yet have a sleep timer on iPhone, but we can fix this problem directly instead. Let’s also see how to activate it on Android.

  • Disable Spotify on iPhone. Let’s say we want to listen to a selection of music or podcasts on Spotify and don’t want them to keep playing if we fall asleep. The solution on the iPhone and its iOS operating system is implemented through the Clock app and in particular through its Timer feature. The iOS timer is used to count down several minutes or hours. At the end of this countdown, you will hear an alarm or a sound of your choice. Obviously, if we want Spotify to stop ringing but not wake us up, an alarm clock won’t help us. So after a few minutes or a few hours of the time you set in the Timer, Spotify will stop playing music or podcasts. If you fall asleep at this time, you won’t wake up the next morning with your phone turned off or a playlist playing.
  • Disable Spotify on Android. If you want to listen to music or podcasts on Spotify for Android before bed and don’t want it to keep playing content if you fall asleep, the Spotify Android app integrates its own timer. When you play a single song, podcast episode, or any playlist, you can activate the timer by tapping the drop-down menu in the top right corner. Among the options you will find the Timer. By clicking on this option, you will see that you can activate the countdown of 5 minutes, 10 minutes, 15 minutes, 30 minutes, 45 minutes, 1 hour, or just turn off Spotify when the current song ends. As with the iPhone, the Spotify timer stops the app from playing sound, but the phone will continue to function normally, which will bother you if you have an alarm set to wake you up in the morning.
