How To Stop Apple Music From Automatically Playing When Connected To Car

Apple Music is one of the most popular and convenient platforms for listening to music. And on top of that, it has a huge number of features and settings.

However, when music continues to play automatically after a song, playlist, or album has ended, it can be annoying and prevent you from concentrating on something. This is mostly due to the Apple Music feature called Autoplay, which you can turn off in iOS, iPadOS, and macOS.

The Issue with Autoplay

A few years ago, an absurd situation arose – a track without words began to occupy the first places in the Apple Music charts and no one could immediately understand the reason for such phenomenal success. The answer was simple – it turned out to be a technical failure that was associated with the regular inclusion of the first track in Apple Music when connected to the car audio system.

The situation is as follows. When connecting an iPhone to a car stereo system, the smartphone begins to automatically play music. Playback starts from the first track in alphabetical order. Everything would be fine, but if you connect and disconnect several times a day, the first track will get boring by the evening.

The song with the name A a a a a Very Good Song – Single after loading becomes track #1 and in the above situations will give the user 10 minutes of silence to calmly select a suitable song or playlist after connecting to the car system.

Fixing the Situation via iTunes

You can fix the situation via iTunes on your computer.

  1. Open the media library with a list of added tracks.
  2. Find the composition A a a a a Very Good Song — Single.
  3. Call the context menu of the file and select the Details item.
  4. Click OK and the track will move to the very top of the list.

After synchronization, the same will happen on the iPhone. But this is the path taken by those who are trying to solve the problem on their own.

Why Won’t Apple Fix This?

Because there is no bug in fact. Playback from the first song in the media library starts only when the music player is completely closed – unloaded from iOS multitasking. This situation is possible if you manually closed the application from the corresponding menu.

If you do not do this, “autoplay” starts from the last played track. Even if the iPhone does not have enough RAM and the program is automatically unloaded, the system itself will remember the stop point, unlike the case with forced termination of the program.

How to Disable Autoplay

By default, the Apple Music app for iPhone and iPad automatically starts another song when the album, track or playlist you are listening to ends. This happens thanks to the Autoplay feature, which is indicated by the infinity symbol in the application settings. If you do not want this automation to occur, it is easy to disable it.

  1. Go to the Apple Music app.
  2. Play absolutely any song. Now expand the track being played to full screen.
  3. Click on the icon with three dots and lines in the lower right corner of the song screen. This will take you to a screen with additional playback controls.
  4. Tap the Autoplay icon (the infinity symbol) to turn off the feature if you don’t want it. The Autoplay queue should disappear and the infinity symbol should turn transparent (instead of white).

How to Turn Off Handoff

Introduced in iOS 8, Handoff is actually a pretty handy feature that lets you sync certain iOS app actions between Apple devices that are signed in to the same Apple ID — for example, launching something like email on one Apple device (Mac, iPhone, iPad, or Apple Watch) and then retrieving it on another device. This also applies to autoplaying music.

If you’d rather stop Handoff from sharing your Apple Music information with your other devices, you can always turn it off:

  1. Pick up your iPhone and launch the Settings app.
  2. Go to General > AirPlay & Handoff. Now, just toggle the Handoff switch to the Off position.

How to Disable CarPlay

As the name suggests, this feature allows CarPlay-compatible cars to automatically start playing music from a detected iPhone or iPad. Here’s how to disable it:

  1. Grab your iPhone and open the Settings app.
  2. Go to General > CarPlay > Forget This Car. As you can see from the iPhone screenshot, if you don’t have a car, you’ll just see an empty queue.

There are a lot of Apple Music features that you can customize to your liking. After all, not everyone wants an inspiring tune to play when they’re not in the mood for it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is MusConv a one-time use tool or a long-term subscription?

It offers flexibility. You can use it for a quick one-off move, or keep it active to utilize features like scheduled syncing and regular library backups as your music collection grows.

How does the software handle artists with similar names?

The tool uses smart metadata filtering. It checks not just the artist name, but also the album title and track duration to ensure you get the exact version of the song you expect, not a random cover.

Can I transfer my "Followed" artists and podcast subscriptions?

Yes, in many cases. MusConv is designed to recognize your followed artists and creators, helping you rebuild your social profile and "for you" recommendations on the new platform much faster.

What happens if I lose my internet connection during a sync?

The software is resilient. If your connection drops, you can simply restart the process; MusConv’s smart detection will pick up where it left off without creating duplicate entries in your library.
