Joint listening on Spotify is implemented in two ways – you can manage playlists together with friends or share favorite tracks while chatting. Let’s walk through it!
Group Session
The first way to listen to music together with friends is the “Group Session” option on Spotify. Currently, the feature may change, with some minor glitches, so keep that in mind.
Note! Only users with a premium subscription can use the joint listening option.
Spotify’s Group Session offers the following capabilities for any participant:
- Listening to tracks.
- Controlling the playback of songs.
To enjoy great songs with friends, follow these steps:
- Open the music service and find the track (or podcast) you’re interested in.
- Look for the icon at the bottom of the screen depicting a monitor and player.
- Find the “Switch to Group Session” section on Spotify and click on the “Start Session” icon.
- Now, click on the “Invite Friends” button and choose the next action.
- You can share the link via connected messengers and social networks (e.g., WhatsApp or Telegram).
- You can also copy the link to the clipboard and send it through any other means.
- The third option is to get an internal code that your friend can scan to join the session.
Ending a Spotify group listening session is easy:
- If you joined as a participant, click the “Leave” button.
- If you initiated the group, click on the “End” icon.
It’s a fantastic opportunity to share great compositions with close people! There’s another option worth mentioning.
Joint Listening
Joint listening on Spotify is the opportunity to simultaneously listen to favorite tracks, play, and communicate! We’ll need integration with the Discord messenger.
Note – any user can link two accounts, but the ability to create joint playlists is available only to premium subscription owners.
First, link the two profiles – this step is essential:
- Open Discord and log in.
- Click on the gear icon for settings on the bottom panel.
- Go to the “Integrations” section in the left menu and find the music service icon.
- An authorization page will open – enter your login and password to connect the platform.
- Accept the terms of use. Done, integration is complete!
Now, you can show through status what music you’re currently listening to. To use joint Spotify playlists, do the following:
- Open Discord and find the user with the music listening status in the friends list on the right.
- Click on the green icon and connect! This option is not available during voice communication – it’s better to use text chat.
Important Note
If someone is simultaneously listening with you and has a free version, they will hear ads, but you won’t.
You’ve learned how to jointly listen to music on Spotify – two cool options allowing you to have a party with your friends! If you decide to switch to another music streaming service, in that case, your best assistant will be the specialized service MusConv, with which you can quickly and efficiently transfer your music playlist from one platform to another.
