The Weeknd and Ariana Grande are no strangers to working together, having collaborated on several tracks in the past. And now, the two have teamed up again for a fresh remix of the hit song “Die For You.” While strictly speaking this isn’t a completely new song, it’s still generating plenty of buzz among fans and music lovers alike.
The original solo version of “Die For You” was released in 2016 on The Weeknd’s third album, «Starboy». The song’s popularity soared on TikTok in 2021, and in January 2023, it reached number six on the Billboard Hot 100. It’s not surprising, then, that the song was ripe for a remix. Interestingly, this isn’t the first remix of the song, either. In 2021, a version featuring singer SZA was played on The Weeknd’s radio show Memento Mori.
To celebrate the fifth anniversary of “Starboy,” The Weeknd also dropped a sci-fi video for the song, featuring references to “Alien” and “Stranger Things.” The remix with Grande, though, is the latest and most high-profile version of the song to date. This marks the fourth time the two artists have worked together, and it’s clear their creative chemistry is still going strong.
Their first collaboration came in 2014 when The Weeknd featured on Grande’s hit single “Love Me Harder.” In 2020, Weekend lent his voice to “Off the Table,” a track from Grande’s sixth album “Positions.”
In a statement announcing the release of the “Die For You” remix, Grande referred to The Weeknd as a friend and revealed that she recorded her verse after a grueling 14-hour workday. The Weeknd, for his part, hinted that their collaboration won’t be ending with “Die For You” – he wrote that “the journey continues.” Given their past successes, it’s no wonder that fans of both artists are eagerly anticipating what they might come up with next.
