If you decide to become a DJ, then you probably faced the question – what equipment do you need for this? The answer is not as simple as it might seem at first glance. You need to understand at what level and where you are going to DJ. If you want to DJ at home for your family and friends, this is one thing. And if you are going to perform not a show in front of an audience of thousands, then this is different.
Today, only a laptop can be enough for full-fledged DJing. This gadget must meet certain requirements, but in general, a mid-range laptop and not very old is enough. The fact is that older laptop models cannot support modern DJing software, much less accept updates. But do not forget that a laptop, like the rest of the equipment, is only one part of the unique creative profession of a DJ.
Music will be your foundation. After all, it is she who is the main component in the work of a DJ. There are many sites on the Internet where you can purchase high-quality MP3s and other digital files. Make sure your recordings are high quality before the public hears them, because no one wants to dance to tracks that sound unorganized or distorted. Explore all types of music and new artists, download a variety of singles to your laptop, and you will create a huge library of songs that you will definitely need.
Make active use of music streaming services. Music streaming has become the main source of music around the world today.
So, let’s move on to the review of the equipment. The easiest way to DJ is on a laptop. What should it be?
Unlike gaming laptops, DJ laptops are nothing special. The only thing is that such a computer must support the software necessary to create electronic music. It’s safe to say that most modern laptops are suitable for DJing. Minimum requirements: 2-4 GB of RAM, 25 GB of free hard disk space, a Core 2 duo or higher processor, and a couple of USB connectors.
If you decide to buy a new laptop, pay attention to the characteristics of the models, decide which parameters you want to pay more attention to. Or you can use the computer you currently have.
Next, pay attention to the following:
- Screen size. The standard laptop screen size is 15.6 inches. For a DJ, this PC size will be quite acceptable. It’s hard to read song titles on the small screen. You can also choose a larger laptop, but keep in mind that it will be in front of you during the performance.
- USB ports. Your laptop must have at least three USB ports. In this case, the more the better. Most controllers require two ports, and you will also need to connect something else, such as a mouse. If there are not enough ports, you can always buy a USB hub.
- Battery life. Even though you probably plug your laptop into the mains while you work, a good battery will be a great safety net in case you are unable to recharge your device for one reason or another. It is very important for a DJ to be able to work with music while on the go.
