What Is The Difference Between Deezer Premium And HiFi?

Lossless audio is growing in popularity as some of the major music streaming services such as Apple Music and Tidal now offer high quality audio services. Deezer HiFi is a plan that allows users to listen to music in the FLAC compression standard, that is, an exact copy of what was recorded in the studio.

What is lossless audio? Lossless audio undergoes compression that retains all of the original recording data and information and provides a lossless copy of the original file. The most common compression methods result in information loss, so the file is not as large, making it easier to transfer and process for the general public. FLAC (Free Lossless Audio Codec) is the compression used in Deezer HiFi. Apple Music, for example, has its own Apple Lossless compression standard.

Deezer HiFi costs €14.99 per month and entitles you to a one month free trial. After this period, the subscription will be automatically debited and transferred to this plan. In comparison, Deezer Premium, which offers 320kbps MP3 audio, costs €9.99 per month.

Deezer Premium offers higher quality MP3 music at 320 kbps. This compression is higher than the standard one offered by Deezer Free at 128 kbps.

In terms of HiFi, the songs are compressed to FLAC (lossless audio), i.e. without data loss, in accordance with the original recording and at a speed of 1411 kbps. The files are larger and the subscriber can hear very high quality sounds.

What devices can users listen to Deezer HiFi on?

Deezer HiFi subscribers can listen to FLAC audio on the following devices:

• Desktop application for PC and Mac;

• Xbox;

• Android mobile devices (Android 6.1.14 or higher);

• iOS mobile devices (iOS 8.1.0 or higher).

Deezer HiFi requires a minimum bandwidth of 5 Mbps to play FLAC streaming. It is worth noting that the user needs compatible headphones and playback equipment in order for the difference in sound quality to be noticeable.

Does lossless work on bluetooth headphones? Lossless does not work on Bluetooth headphones. You can still use Bluetooth headphones with Deezer, however songs will not play losslessly. While playing content, tap the Info & Options menu, then select Track Format. You will be able to see if the music is in MP3 or FLAC format. Some tracks have a small “HiFi” label.
