Why are DJs always turning knobs?

If you’ve ever been to a nightclub, or attended a rave party in the past 10 years, chances are you have seen DJs spinning records and turning various knobs. Why do they do this? What does it all mean? In most cases, when people refer to “DJs” they are talking about someone who is creating electronic dance music. In these cases, the DJ will use turntables to create beats and rhythms by manipulating sound waves with the turn of a few knobs. But that’s not all. 

Maybe they’re just really into their music, or maybe they’re actually changing the sound. The answer is: both!

In order to mix the songs, the DJ needs to turn one handle clockwise and another counterclockwise at the same time so that when he brings them back together it sounds like one song. There are other uses to handles too.
